Serbian and international partners organised the 22nd World Canals Conference in Serbia on 20-27 September 2009. The conference was centred on Novi Sad, capital of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, and included tours to the spectacular Iron Gate of the Danube (21-22 September), and to significant heritage sites on the canal system of Vojvodina - Middle Danube (26-27 September). The conference itself (23-25 September) was an invaluable forum for waterway managers, users and all who have an interest in the navigable rivers and canals of the Middle Danube Region.
